Capital Improvement at Aspen Snowmass: Nell to Bell and Ullrhof

Exciting upgrades are underway at Aspen Snowmass ahead of the 2026–2027 ski season. From Aspen Mountain's new Nell Bell chairlift to Snowmass's rebuilt Ullrhof restaurant, Matt Ross shares what's changing and what skiers can look forward to this winter.
We had our first snow up high, and there is plenty to look forward to this coming season. Aspen Mountain and Snowmass will open November 26th, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands will follow two weeks later on December 12th. This is obviously weather permitting, but I feel pretty good that we are in for a better-than-average year.
There are two large capital improvement projects on Aspen Mountain and Snowmass; the most anticipated one is the new Nell to Bell lift, which just had its haul rope spliced (see picture below), and the chairs are going on as we speak. The Leitner/Poma detachable quad will bring skiers to the top of Bell Mountain in 8 minutes. As I wrote here last month, it will change the way the mountain skis. The lift is well ahead of schedule and will be ready for opening day.
Another exciting opening will be the rebuilt Ullrhof restaurant at Snowmass. Spanning 28,000 square feet and 3 stories, the project brings expanded seating (over 650 seats), a new bar and lounge level, and a fresh mountain-inspired design to a longtime favorite gathering place. It will also become Aspen Snowmass’ first fully electric on-mountain restaurant.
